Mr John Payne, M.P., was on a business visit to Masterton yesterday. The Rev. A. H. Colville. of New Plymouth, arrived in Masterton last night. f Mr Thompson, editor of the N.Z. Scot, is at present on a visit to Masterton.

• Mr H. W. Bridge has been re-elect-ed president of the show committee of the Eketahuna branch of the Farmers' Union. Mr J. W. Collins, of the Labour Department, has returned to Wellington from an. official visit to Masterton.

Mr P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, with Messrs C. Beales. C. Carter, and W. P. Wright (assessors) arrived in Masterton yesterday from Napier."

, The friends, of Mr James Elliott, of Masterton, will be pleased to learn that he has returned from a fortnight's holiday in Napier, very much improved in health. [Provincial Grand Master Bro. Boake, accompanied by P.D.G.M. Bro S. Guy and P.S.S. Bro. ' Godber, visited the Masterton Oddfellows' Lodge last evening. Mr William Perry, of Penrose, writing to his brother (Mr G. H. Perry) from Dublin, states that he has spent a pleasant three weeks in touring through Ireland. He proposed making a tour of the South of England prior to his return to New Zealand.

Mr F. C. Lewis, who has been associated with the auctioneering business in .Masterton for the last twen-ty-four years, has been compelled to sever his connection with the firm of Abraham and Williams, Ltd 1 ., owing to failing health. Mr Lewis has been confined to his house for the last three months.

It is persistently rumoured in Masteuton (says the Eketahuna Express) that Mr J. T. M.. Hornsby will contest the Masterton seat at the next election in the Opposition interests. A familiar figure in the person of Mr J. Winteringham will be shortly missed in Eketahuna, he having accepted an appointment with the Wellington Farmers' Meat Company as fat stock buyer in the Dannevirke district. Mr Winteringham has for the past six years acted as Eketahuna agent for Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd. Mr H. G. Manning, who has been in the employ of the W.F.C.A. in Eketahuna for the past eight years, and who has occupied tlie position-as manager of the local branch for the past twelve months, severs his connection with the firm at the end <bf September. It is understood he will be teucceecTed (by Mr C. Smith, of Greytown. Mr Manning was an enthusiastic member of the Bowling Club, and will be missed in that circle.
