THE EDUCATION ACT.
PROPOSALS OF TEACHERS. (By Telegraph — Tress Association.) WELLINGTON, Last Night. The executive of the Sieiw Zealand Educational Institute has drawn up the following remit, which is being sent forward for consideration by the annual meetings of the various district institutes: "That the N.Z. Educational Institute be asked to deivote its main endeavours to securing in the coming revision, of the Education Act the following prinof reform: (a) The inaugura- / tion of a council of education which, under file control of Parliament, shall have the direction of the educational policy and administration : (b) the placing of the inspectorial and -teaching staff's under the control of some central authority such as the council referred to above or the Public Service' Commissioner. or some other body appointed ad hoc; (c) an adequate scale of salaries for teachers and inspectors ; (d, x > provision for a sufficient supply of trained teach•ers; (e) substitution\ of some better . basis than attendance for the com—putation of salaries."
