THE SHEARERS' MEETING.
(To the Editor) Sir,.— l was. surprised to see bj. your' paper that the Rev: A. T. Thompson had made reference from. his. pulpit to the tact that the shearers had held a meeting, on. Sunday night.. If he had taken the trouble to acquaint himself with the facts, he would] probably not have dealt with the subject in the manner he. did. The shearers of Masterton come to town, as a rule on Saturdays, to do their shopping; If they attend a meeting, the 1 shops stJffer. The fact that the attendance at. Sunday's meeting was much larger- than at any previous meeting held on the week-night, shows that the most convenient day. was chosen. There was no desire to offend church'-goers; or to desecrate ' * the Sabbath,. The shearers- had simply no other convenient dav on which to meet. Trusting that this explanation will cause the Rev.. Thompson to modify hi« opinion.—l am, etc. SHEARER. Masterton, September 23,. 1913;
