IMMUNITY FROM CRIME.
It is satisfactory to be able to record that in recent years there has lieen almost an immunity from serious forms' of crime in the Wairarapa district. The fact that only one criminal case came before the Court at the present session, and that this case was not of a serious character, indicates that there is an almost entire absence of crime in the Wairarapa. One-would be hardly justified in attributing this satisfactory state of things to the fact that no-license obtains in the MastertOn electorate, for the criminal district embraces two licensed areas. Moreover, the reports indicate that in almost every oountry district in the Dominion there has "of late been a marked decrease in the serious forms of crime. The cause will -probably be found in the unparalleled prosperity of the people "and the advance in civilisation. So v long as we can prevent congestion in the cities and its consequent unemployment, so long will our criminal calendars be light.
