IN FASHION'S REALM.

UP-TO-DATE NOTES ON WHAT TO WEAR. ■ Thus I take some notice of the shops. Cotton voile has never been seen in so many pretty designs. Cldsely covered floral patterns lead. Pompadour and Dolly Varden effects will be prime favourites. The latter with jj. white flower, daisy, perhaps, on grey, vieux rose or amethyst is very pretty. The crepes are ideal. Frosted in tan, saxe, gray, coral, navy, etc., is fasnionable in draped styles. White ground crapes with fancy Bulgarian designs are attractive. Washing crepes are in plain colours of wido range and in stripes and fancy designs. Eponge cloths cover all colours, and striped varieties are wide, medium and narrow. Eponge velours is an admirable fabric for costumes —a dozen shades again. All kinds of effects are obtained, diagonal, broche, etc., and one lnis a silk thread. Mercerised poplins are in many, shades, likewise silk marquisettes. Washing piques carry an infinite variety of stripes; linens compass navy, sky, cerise, fawn, mole, tan, nattier, saxe, etc. it is as good as going to an art gallery for the first time to do the shops now. They, too, are art galleries. Silk, wool and cotton are there on fashion's throne. Pallettes, chene and louisines make a gallant display. At the other end are bewildering array of the washables. lam looking for the humorous draper who will venture to put on show a washing tub garlanded with ribbons.

For the girl in her teens! First the Balkan blouse, of which there was previous note. Here is the drawing, sufficient even though small. As you will see it hangs straight, but gathers into a band of the material. Though theivj are many expressions, what is better than in association with a sailor collar? The frock in the

panel is an adaptation of an adult style, the ornate in the original having been eliminated. Of course, the design has virtues for beyond teens as well as in the latter of them . It is, or ought to be, a tioin ay typifitti certain modish features in the best form. Again to the shops! Etceteras of. belt, frill and insertion! Bulgarian effects in the first, and note —Bulgarian buckles, small square, roundand six cornered, oxidised silver set with coloured stone in different designs. Dear? Not a bit of_it; silver was once worth 5s 6d an ounce, and now is less than half. Would that gold were the same in buying jewellery and double in one's purse. Frills—ivory pleated net and tulle, double row, silk finish ; soft black and white in fine net; lace with sprays of rosebuds, etc., some low priced, others not. Then dainty ruffles, black ribbon finish ; black tulle with black satin ribbon and floral sprays; fine white net with black valvet ribbon, chantilly lace edge, spray of buds; black chantilly lined with black silk, black satin ribbon finish. Again—some lowpriced, others not. Gloves as usual, and all exquisite; various oddments of dainty character; finally parasols! -Soon we shall'be revelling in them, domes, but for the more fashionable semi-flat tops, and bent ends, such, as■ deep as half t,ho radius of the top. The embroidered varieties will receive notice, and with them superb lingerie hats in keeping. Insertions—silver bead, silvor bead applique, gold bead and the like. In conjunction, silver bend fringes, pearl ditto*, and tassels of both. All is -so very elegant as to leave ho -chance "not to appear nice and dainty. Everywhere tbe conces 1 - sion is made —a woman's prerogative. Iluffle, gloves, parasol, belt or sash, handkerchief —these are the items that make the complaint and stamp the owner.

What lovely ready made blouses! How could they be made at home? There is the white voile trimmed with tiny beads, turn down collar; also trimmed coloured voile collar and cuffs. Then white linen with Bxilgarian Peter Pan collar, side pocket. Also white muslin, shirt variety tucked. Again white lace, trimmed torchon, tucked net, Peter Pan collar. Somo of us like made-to-measure blouses. The latest designs appear in white linen, muslin or voile trimmed

lace, tucked trimmed white and gold embroidery, French knots, satin collar. The Puritan blouse is pretty—cotton crepe, voile, linen, and crepe de chine. Rise from blouses to tun-

ics—all over embroidery, exquisite designs to go with white linen, etc. Blouses fasten back or front—a blessing on the latter. Time has perfected this garment, with the result we lnve hundreds of expressions of modish styles. But as previously said, necks are low, with the certainty of so continuing. As the season advances we shall see many extra designs.
