CHAMPIONSHIP MEET I NO. Beautiful weather prevailed for the opening day of the North Island Championship Dog Trials, which arc this year being held under the auspices of the Masterton Collie Club, on the property.of Mr Walter Cameron, Te Ore Ore. Competitors were present from all parts of the Dominion, and it is fairly silfe to assume that the best trial' dogs of New Zealand figure amongst the entries, which constitute a record. ' The opening event, Heading, Driving and Yarding, is divided into two classes, A and B. The first class is open to all-comers, while the second is confined to competitors who reside within the boundaries of the Masterton and Wairarapa electorates. «For tins event no fewer than 51 competitors are engaged, and of these 43 comphted their entry yesterday, leaving eight others to compete this morning. It is anticipated that the result will be made known at 10 a.m.
The • Championship Long Head will be commenced immediately afterwards, and if time permits the other championship events will also be gone on with. In the local events Mr A. C. Morton is the judge, while the open classes are 'adjudicated bv Mr Donald McDonald,' Hawkes Bay. Besides the large number of competitors, there was also a. fair number of spectators prevent yesterday, and the work of many of ihe dogs Was watched with the keenest interest. '.. " ,"■' '■
- Messrs * Fly v and -■'Young'ji motor lorry will convey competitors to the grounds, .leaving the Post Office at 7.30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
