THE FEDERAL ELECTIONS.
_♦_ POSITION OF PARTIES NOTALTERED. REFERENDA VOTE UNCERTAIN (Received Last Night, 10.25 o'clock.) SYDNEY, Juno ,'{. To-day's progressive returns have not affected th • position of parties. Though the absentee votes have yet to be counted in almost every electorate, it is not regarded as likely that they will do more than vary 'to a more or less considerable "* oxtent, the individual majorities already established. The Senate figures also tend to emphasise fJTe position already notified. The referenda returns, though they show a slight affirmative majority, are too unrepresentative yet for any deductions to be made. THE FIGHT CONTINUES. TWO DOUBTFUL SEATS. (Received Last Nisrht. 11.55 o'clock.) SYDNEY, Juno 3. Tho fight at Tllawarra, whore the latest figure?! give Labour a lend of 110, and at Ballarat whero the Liberal candidate is leading by fourteen, are still going strong. A large abs?nt vote is still to be counted, which is expected to favour Labour at Ballarat, and the Liberals at Illawarra. It is anticipated that a recount b,' asked for in 'each case. In the event of Labour winning both it will give the Government a 'naioritv of one.
Sir William Lyric and Sir John Quick are definitely defeated. s
