FUNCTIONS OF FINANCE COMMITTEE. DISCUSSED BY THE BOARD. At the meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board yesterday, when the minutes of the Finance Committee came up for adoption, Mr A. I). McLeod expressed the opinion that the timo had arrived when there should be a radical change in the methods of the Board. He could not see how the members of the Board could adopt minutes of the Finance Committee, when they knew nothing about tho business. He was of opinion that the Board should meet once a month. He considered that matters had been dealt- with by the Finance Committee that should really come before the Board as a body. 'Mr Cameron : The member is out of order. To put things in order. I move that the minutes of the Finance Committee bo adopted. Mr Fisher: 1 second it. Mr McLeod proceeded to say that he could not vote for the adoption of minutes, the correctness of which he could not. certify to.

The Chairman .stated that a Finance Committee had been set up by the Board, and this Committee dealt with urgent matters that'came hefore it. The Finance Committee had done a lot of work, and it would be glad if outside members gave a little more assistance.

iMr McLeod agreed that the Com- j mittee had done good work. He considered, however, that it had done too much. Mr Bolton : The Committee should be an executive instead of a. finance committee. Tlie>Cliairnfan : That is so;.- , • • Mr \V. Fisher' asked that Mr McLeod should give some specific instance in which the Finance Committee had done work that should have been referred to the Board. It was truo that the committee had transacted business that might have come before the Masterton Hospital Committee. Mr McLeod stated that at least ' twenty letters had come before the , committee which, were really the business of the Board. Tho Chairman replied that the business before the committee was very ? - Tight. ' _ • . , Mr Herbert agreed with Mro-Mc^ ; : Leod's Views in the matter. 'He considered that only financial questions ■should be dealt with by the Finance Committee.

Mr Cameron stated that the Committee, had been set up by the Board to perform certain functions. It-did the business to the. best' of its ability. Only matters of urgency were dealt with, and its decisions came before the Board for adoption or otherwise. After further discussion, the motion for the adoption of the report was carried on the voices.
