REPLY TO SMALL FARMER.

| (To the Editor.) I Sir, —Tlio correspondent who signs i himself "Small Farmer" must be also a very "small minded" individual as well a timid one, when he is afraid to sign his name below the "trash" he wrote. It is quite' evident that either lie h;us no fats for export, or he is parsing them through the local works, and he does not want the single men who are led by a tew "agitators" to know his name. I I suppose he thinks he has summed up | the position in a nutshell, and thinks that the ordinary slaughterman has |no mind of life own. But I might tell I "Small Farmer" that a life-time spent in the agricultural districts of this country leads to a fossilised mind, and if the cap fits, ho is welcomo to wear it. When "Small Farmer" starts in to call people names, lie must bo prepared to get them back again, and, to be perfectly frank, I think it would take an "agitator" worked by electricity to make any impression on him. Give "Agitator" the name of "Organiser" though, and he can work "Small Farmer" any way he wants liim. Tn fact, "Small Farmer" is a good tiling for the Executive of the Farmers' Union, because lie has no say in matters vitally concerning himself, lint does exactly as the Executive of the Farmers' Union tells him. life the good little farmer he is.—l am, etc., J. H. BISHOP. Clareville, February 4, 1913. (To the Editor.) Sir, —.1 do not intend to hold a controversy with "Small Farmer" as to the rights or wrongs cf the slaughtennon'.s dispute.. The fact of his having admitted that the Executive of the Farmers' Union has not consulted the individual farmers and their wives, as to whether the man lis of tiie slaughtermen should be resisted or not, is -sufficient proof j that the Executive is not voicing the opinions of the rank and file, and j that Wilson and Co. are running the ! show. Tf "Small Farmer" would sign hi,s full name and address, it would be more satisfactory to the readers of the Ago, as the character of a man's property is an indication of how that man will act on an occasion of j this sort. —I am, etc., EOT) McEAE. Gar swells, February 5, 1913. j
