THE MASTERTON HATCHERIES

WILL THEY BE RETAINED?

Air Duncan McGregor, senr., a member of the Council of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society, waited upon the Masterton. Chamber of Commerce yesterday, by invitation, and placed the position in rgeard to th<cv fish hatcheries before the members. -Mr McGregor outlined the position in regard to the hatcheries at .some length, and .stated that the lease of the grounds would fail in next year. Mr L. F. Ayson. had reported that the water at Masterton wa* more suited for the hatcheries than elsewhere, but several members of the Society were of opinion that the (price asked for the twelve acres (£2000) was too high. Mr McGregor thought an effort should be made to retain the hatcheries in Masterton.

Society, with .an expression; of this CfoaTnlbier's- readiness to do anything within reason to assist the Society in retaining the ponds in Masterton.; and that a. small .sulb-comimittee be .set up to confer with the representatives of Ren all's Trustees (the owners' of the block) and the Wairarapa representative of the Acclimatisation .Society, and report a» to how this project may hast be assisted."

,TJie N President,- and Messrs Daniell, Robson, and Donald were appointed a sub-committee. I
