CORRESPONDENCE.
MR SYKES' MEETING.
[To The Editor.] - Sir, —t notice in your Monday's issue, a paragraph, purporting to be a report of MrG. R. Sykes' meeting at Alfredtoo. Saturday' evening. Now, Sir, I do not wish to say , anything against Mr Sykes, but I cannot let the' report pass, without an emphatic protest. Your correspondent states that tihe attendance was a re* c'owl for the district, also that a vote of thanks and confidence was passed, whereas botlh of these statements are contrary to fact; Mr Sykes audience, which was counted ~by more than one present, v totalled 49. I will leave it to the residents of Alifredton to judge whether or not this- is a record. At the conclusion of his . address, the dhairinan, Mr J. Boustead, proposed h hearty- vote of thanks to the candiwhich was carried by acclamation. Not a vote of thanks and con? fidence, as stated. —I am, etc., '/■ ' ' ONE OF THE AUDIENCE.
(The report of the Alfred-ton meeting ■ of Mr Sykea was supplied to us from '; an apparently reliably source.—Ed. Age.) . ' • [-
