A 'Press Association message received from Palmerston North last night states that private information has been received there of the death at Rotorua of Mr 3 Frank Wadegrave, wife of the Under-Secretary for Justice.

Mr W. J. McEwan, Mayor of Petone, is convening a meeting of citizens for Tuesday next with a view to arranging for the presentation of a testimonal to Mr W. Hardham, V.C., on his retirement from the football field.

Lieutenants Grant and Whyte, two of the four New Zealand officers who went Home last winter for a twelve months' courae of training, have successfully passed through the Imperial musketry course at Hythe, with credit. The Imperial course is a much more exacting one than that set for officers of the Territorial B'orce.

Sir Joseph Ward and Lady Ward were present on Thursday afternoon at the opening of the maternity home at Gisborne, that is being established on the lines of St. Helens Homes. The Government provided the site and subsidised £ for £ the thousand pounds collected in the district. The institution starts thoroughly furnished, equipped, and staffed free of debt. Lady Ward performed the formal ; opening ceremony, and speeches were made by the Premier, the Hons. Jas. Carroll and Dr Valintine. In the evening Sir Joseph and Lady Ward were entertained at a public social.
