CRICKET.

A team froin Eketahuna journeyed to Pahiatua this afternoon, and defeated the Pahiatua Saturday eleven by nine runs. Eketahuna compiled 66 and Pahiatua 57. For Eketahuna Fish was the only batsman to reach double figures, making 36 in fine style. Lowes was the next highest scorer with 9 not out. Wallis was the most successful bowler for lJahiatua, taking 5 wickets for 19 runs. R„ Welch took 3 for 26 and Short 2 for 12. For Pahiatua Short (30) and R. Welch (19) played good cricket for their runs. Fish took 5 wickets for 12 runs for Eketahuna, Bradstock 3 for 7„ Cittadini 1 for 12, Morris 1 for 14, Griffith 0 for 11. At the conclusion of the match the Eketahuna team were entertained by the local team. TENNIS. There were a large number of spectators on the local tennis court to-day, to witness the match Country versus Town. Ihe former created a surprise by winning by 13 games to 9. Afternoon tea was provided by the bachelors.and was much appreciated. A large number of ladies were pres T ent.

The sum of £5,580 17s is the amount clue to the Pahiatua County Council for rates for 1908-9. Of this amount, £3,238 was paid in up to March sth, 1909, leaving £2,342 17s outstanding.
