MIRACULOUS ESCAPES
ACCIDENT AT A DOCK. Received March 8, 12.20 a.m. LONDON. March 7. During the preparations to admit water to the almost finished Vittoria Dock at Birkenhead, the high wind j and high tide broke the piles and j timber forming the dam. The inrush of water caught nineteen men working in the dock, and swept away the platform of a huge crane, which collapsed upon the workmen, pining them. Five men had miraculous escapes.
