VALEDICTORY.

A DRUIDS' LODGE FUNCTION. A special summoned meeting of the Masterton Druids' Lodge was held last evening, Bro. C. McGaughran, A.D., presiding, when Bro. G. E. A. Hood, Secretary of the Lodge, tendered his resignation on account of his leaving for Christchurch. The resignation was accepted with regret, and Bro. E. Pragnell was elected to fill the vacancy. Bro. J. K. Bfinkhorne was elected to tne office of Treasurer, vacated by Bro. Pragnell. j The meeting th«n took the form of ! a farewell gathering to Bro. Hood, the A.D. .again presiding. tiro. D. A. Pickering. P.D.P., presented Bro. Hood with a handsome smoker's companion, gold mounted, and suitably inscribed, as a token of the very high esteem in which the recipient was held. Bro. Pickering eulogised the sterling qualities of Bro. irlood as a lodge member, and in all other ways, and wished him continued success in his deparmental sphere. Bros. E. Pragnell and E. H. Waddineton also made congratulatory speeches, in which they assured Bro. Hood of tho best wishes of the Lodge for his future success. Bro. Huod responded briefly, and said that his connection with the ijodge would always be a pleasant memory with him. He had found the members one and al! excellent friends and comrades, and his work as Secretary l.ad been considerably lightened by "their hearty assistance. He thani:ed them ail most heartily for their splendid gift and kindly sentiments. The proceedings were interspersed with vocal items, the contributors being Bros. Davy, N. H. McEwen and Hood, recitations being also given by Bros. Gauriey, McGaughran and Owen. Supper was also provided, and various toasts were honoured.
