TERRITORIAL ARMY SCHEME.
-—-}- A STRONG PROTEST. Received July 7, 9 a.m. LONDON, July 6. Sir G. Taubman Goldie, addressing the National Defence Association, made a strong protest against the recent reductions in the regular army, and referred to the national danger arising therefrom. He recommended that the nation should do iti utmost to secure the success of the territorial scheme. Official reports show that 183,000 men have joined'the territorials. "The Times" considers this encouraging, but emphasises the fact that 20,000 mors are needed. It adds: "The best feature of the situation is that 10,009 new recruits were enrolled during June."
