LORD DUDLEY.
SPEECH AT A BANQUET. Received June 12, 8.10 a.m. LONDON, June 10. The Earl of Dudley, the newlyappointed Governor-General of Australia, was present at a pageant at Dudley Castle, in Worcestershire. Speaking at a banquet in recognition of his appointment, he said he should act on Mr Chamberlain's advice to a former colonial Governor, aijjdrsay noth n? about Australia until he came back. His Excellency said be believed in the nobility of the public service, and was unable to see why a politician. shoulJ bo less willing to accept service abroad than a soldier, more especially among a young, virile, and warm-hearted people, who inherited Brilish traditions, but, being untramrr.clled by the customs prevailing in older countries, had the advantage of a clean slate.
