CASTLEPOINT COUNTY COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Castlepoint County Council was held on Saturday last. There were present—Crs. Langdon, Ryder, Bennett, and Rjchardon. In the absence of Cr Speedy, Cr Langdon was voted to the chair. The Finance Committee recommended the payment of accounts amounting to £250 10s 6d. The Secretary to the Treasury advised that the irregularity in the proposal to raise a loan of £2,000. to form and metal ahout three miles of the Masterton-Waimata Road could be rectified by an order in Council. He asked for a draft copy for the approval of the Treasury. It was decided to supply this. Authority was received for the expenditure of grants on the Tinui Valley Road, and the Post Office Road, Langdale. The Valuer-General furnished a revaluation of section 8, Langdale, and authorising a reduction in the valuation of £2,000 on Mr Paulsen's section.

The Inspector of Factories wrote requesting that a day be fixed in the week for a half-holiday. The Controller and Auditor-General forwarded the balance-sheet duly certified. , Messrs Gawith and Logan, advised that Mr 3 Cox's property could not be sold by the trustees. The Patungata County Council forwarded a copy of a resolution, on the proposed visit to the dominion of Mr Keir Hardin, .which the Council endorsed.

One tender each was received for metalling contracts Nos. 26 and 27, Both tenders were submitted by MiGeorge Lett, and were accepted at the following prices:- -Contract No. 27, 6s 6d per cubic yard; contract No. 26, 2s per cubic yard. With regard to the purchase of three acres of land for a gravel reserve at Ngapopatu, the Council decided to offer at the rate of £ls per acre, without prejudice, to any action in taking it under the Public Works Act.
