The Hon. Dr. Findlay attended the races, yesterday, in order to observe the working of the Gaming Act. He stated to an interviewer that from what he had observed and heard the bookmakers appear to recognise the law and conditions of their licenses. The operations of the bookmakers could not be said to amount to a nuisance to anyone. The leading racing clubs were evincing a genuine desire to carry out the spirit of the law, and while they did this it was imperative that bookmakers should give no cau&e for complaint. It was early to make a prediction, but he considered that section 35 of the Act was proving that bookmakers and the tote could work upon the same course without friction or interference from either.
