THE "RAGGING" COMMISSION.

By Telegraph—Press Association

CHRISTCHURCH, November 1. The "ragging" enquiry was resumed to-day. Five cleaners working in the same shed' as Bray denied that Bray was interfered with in any way by them, nor did they see any others interfere with him. There was no "slurrying," or they would have seen it.- They did not think a "slurry" or two would hurt a man who was working. Bray, recalled, said the night foreman locked up his bicycle in the storeroom every evening after the first night, because on that night one of the valves was removed. On Thursday and Friday mornings the night. foreman came and stood by while witness washed, to see'he was not interfered with. Ten other witnesses followed, all corroborating the evidence of the previous five. Harry H. Jackson, locomotive engineer for the Hurunui-Bluff section, stated that complaints had been received from the cleaning- sheds from time to time, but nothing moreserious than horseplay, and ths throwing of "slurry" was alleged. No indecency had been complained! of. He thought that even if the supervision were trebled it would be impossible to . prevent a certain amount of horseplay, taking place. If there were any serious abuses in the shed he felt sure there were at least half a dozen lads who would come forward and say so. The officers of the Department were doing their best to put down any skylarking and horseplay; The enquiry concluded this evening, and the commissioner will re- ' port to the Department.
