WANGANUI, November 1. A sitting of the Arbitration Court was held here to-day* : All the breaches dealt with were from outside the district. J. Campbell, of Marton, was fined £5 for failing to pay wageo evevy Saturday. H.' F. Hunter, of Marton, was fined £2 for failing to pay then minimum wage under the painters' award. E. Westwood, of Bulls, for underpaying a blacksmith, wasordered to pay the costs. W. W. Davidson, of Taihape, was fined £1 for failing to allow a blacksmith a half-holiday.; G., French, of Bulls, I was fined £2 for underpaying a tailor. J. Brunton, of Hunterville, was fined £3 for underpaying a tailoress, and H. Jones, an operative blacksmith, was fined £2 for working for less than the minimum wage. EXPORT OF GOLD. A walking, match between Wakeman 1 and Wilson, from Marton to Taihape, a distance of 53 miles, eventuated yesterday. Wakemanibreasted the tape two feet in advance of his opponent. The time occupied in actual walking, was 10 hours 47 minutes. In a former match, Wakeman v. Kelly, the time was 10 hours 53 minutes; by Kelly. ANNIVERSARY OF MARLBOROUGH. Good weather prevailed. g DAIRY' FACTORY DESTROYED. ' , By* Telegraph—Press Association. GORE, November 1. A fire broke-out to-day whereby * Wayte's Dairy Factory, at Otamita, was destroyed. A nor'-west gale vas raging, and nothing was saved. About £SO worth of cheese (uninsured) was also destroyed. The factory was insured in the State Office for £7O. It is thought that a spark from the. boiler fire was blown amongst the firewood and caused the disaster. ' RUSH ON THE CUSTOMS. CLEARING STOCKS OF SUGAR. By Telegra"ph—Press Association. WELLINGTON- November 1. Considerable quantities of sugar, which had been held pending the coming into force of the new Customs tariff, were cleared at the Customs to-day. DUNEDIN, November 1. This morning there was a big rush at the Customs House, clearing goods on which duty had been taken off. It was one of the busiest days carters have had for a very long time.
