A LAWYER'S CRIME. SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT. Received-November 2, 1 a.m. BERLIN, November 1. The death sentence passed on Dr. Carl Hau,, for the murder of, his. mother-in-law, has been commuted to penal servitude for life. (Dr. Hau, an American lawyer, was sentenced to death at Karsruhe, for shooting his mother-in-law at Baden, in November [last, in order to obtain her fortune. While he was awaiting trial his wife committed suicide in Lake Zurich, in Switzerland.) AN INTERDICTION. Received November 1, 8.45 a.m. ,'. LONDON, October 31. The Daily Express states that Mr Buxton, the Postmaster-General, has forbidden the formation of a Central Telegraph branch of the Primrose League,though Liberal, Socialist, and Tariffite branches were allowed. RISE IN BANK RATE. Received November 1, 10.34 a.m. LONDON, October 31. The Bank of England rate of discount has been raised to 4£ per cent.
