RIFLE SHOOTING IN AUSTRALIA.

A TRIANGULAR MATCH. BRILLIANT VICTORY FOR NEW ZEALAND. Received November 1, 10.48 p.m. SYDNEY November 1. To-day a triangular match, eight men aside, between Britain, New Zealand and the Bathurst Civilian Rifle Club provided an exciting finish. The result was in doubt right up to the last shoot. The final scores were:— New Zealand ... 751 Britain ... 750 Bathurst Rifle Club... 749 At the 200 yards range the New Zealanders were twelve points behind the Britishers, who were eight behind Bathurst. At the 600 yards range New Zealand topped the score with 256, Bathurst 253, and Britain 251. At the last range the New Zealanders shot splendidly. When the last man (Ayson) was firing he had to make a magpie to tie and an inner to beat Britain, who led Bathurst by a point. He brought up the inner disc, amidst great excitement. General Gordon, the State Commandant, in congratulating the teams, said that the match would go down as an historic struggle. He said it was proposed to open a shilling subscription for tha purpose of securing a trophy for the Empire Match, to be competed for annually. The public would have a chance to contribute. During the match the light was bad, and fishtail winds prevailed. The following were the individual scores of the New Zealand team in the match: — 200 yds. 500 yds. 600 yds. Tl.
