THE SLAUGHTERMEN'S STRIKE.

Received September 5, 9.30 a.m. LONDON, September 4. The Pall Mall Gazette says the Labour party in New Zealand thought compulsory arbitration would sound very well, but was unprepared for its

logical consequences. The Manchester Guardian declares that the Court of Appeal's decision is sound logic, und equally sound law. It adds:—"Regarding the statement that a general strike or lock-out in defiance of the law is possible, such flights of fancy might be applied to almost any law, but there is practically no evidence that such a state of things exists among the workmen or.employers of New Zealand." (The Court of Appeal recently de ■ cided that writs of attachment could be issued, over-ruling Mr Justice Williams' decision.)
