LONDON MARKETS.

Messrs Dalgety and Company, Limited, have received the following cables from London, dated the 16th instant:—Wool—The sales closed firm and active with brisk competition. As compared with the closing rates of last series prices are unchanged for merinos and fine crossbrdes; medium and coarse crossbreds, and light conditioned wools. For greasy shabby and dingy wools, and wools in heavy and earthy condition, prices are at par to 5 per cent, lower. For merino lambs, prices are on a par with last series closing rates. Crossbred lambs, 5 per cent, lower. Out of the net quantity available for sale some 92.000 bales have been sold for Home consumption; 5,000 bales for the Continent; 4,000, bales for America, leaving 15,000 bales to be carried forward to the next series. Frozen Meat —There is better demand for lamb, and prices are very firm. Poor demand for mutton, and any change in prices is in favour of buyers. Good demand for beef, maikst firm. We quote—New Zealand prime crossbred Jamb, Canterbury, heavy, s£d; light, s|d. North Island lamb, heavy, s£d; light sd. Canterbury mutton, heavy [ weights, 3|d; light 4d. North Island, heavy, 3Jd; light 3|d. New Zealand prime ox beef, fores 3id; hinds ( 3§d. Butter—Best quality, market firm without change in prices; other qualities are neglected. The total imports of butter into the United Kingdom for the week ending the 11th instant amounted to 87,000cwt as compared with 61,000cwt for the" corresponding period of 1906. It is absolutely necessary that lower grades be sent'to cool store upon arrival in order to avoid sacrificing and deterioration. Tallow—Market steady at last quotations. There will be no public sales of tallow next week. I
