Mr Deakin and Sir Joseph Ward saw Mr Asquith, Chancellor of the Exchequer, and a dozen Treasury experts, who said it was impossible,to take action regarding the double income tax, and the decimal currency ! and metric systems. The delegates expressed regret that the discussion had proved fruitless. The question of fc silver coinage was then raised. The officials presented a memorandum showing that it was impossible to agree to Australia's proposals.
