THE EXHIBITION.

- By Telegraph—Special Service. CHRISTCHURCH, March 25. . There was again a good attendance at the Exhibition, to-day, consisting almost entirely of visitors to Christchurch. One hundred school children arrived from Banks' Peninsula, and will remain at the Exhibition until Wednesday. Some of them from outlying bays had never seen a train. The Turakina Maori girls visited the cadet encampment, this morning, and gave performances of poi dances, being entertained afterwards at dinner by the officers. Later in the afternoon they gave an excellent programme of dances in the pah before a large attendance. Hakas were also danced by a number of Maoris resident in the pah. Similar entertainments will be given daily. The sheep-yarding competition on the Sports Ground to-day attracted an unusually large attendance. There was no orchestra] concert this evening, the Concert Hall being required for the rehearsal of the oratorio "Elijah," to be given -hj,,. the orchestra and chorus of 140 voices on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings next. The sale of tickets in the Exhibition Art Union will close on Thursday night, and the drawing for prizes will take place on Saturday. A party of 20. school-girls are to leave Hokitika, this evening, in charge of a lady teacher, for the purpose of visiting the Exhibition. Accommodation is being provided for them at the Exhibition "Home," and it is iexpected that if the visit passes offsuccessfully very large numbers of school-girls from other parts of the colony will visit the Exhibition under the same conditions. The period for receiving tenders for the removal of the Exhibition buildings has been extended till April Bth, owing to a large number of enquiries made, and applications for more time to work out the approximate amount of timber conj tained in the buildings. Mr Munro has received requests from Wellington for the holding of a final fireworks display on Easter Saturday instead of Easer Monday. It is pointed out that a large number of visitors from Wellington will have to leave again on Monday nigqt to commence work on Tuesday. The matter is under consideration. Meanwhile, a specially fine display of fireworks in conjunction with the picturesque act "Fighting the Flames" and the concert by the massed bands, will be given 'next Wednesday night. The following football matches will be played on the Exhibition Sports Ground on Easter Saturday . and Easter Monday:- Albion (Christchurch) v. Southern (Dunedin), Christchurch v. Wellington, High School Old Boys v. Wellington College Old Boys, Linwood (Christchurch) v. Union (Dunedin), Merivale (Christchurch) v. Alhambra (Dunedin). Mr Hopkins, the Government Apiarian, gave an address on bee-keeping at the Exhibition, on Saturday, particularly on artificial queen rearing, to a number of interested visitors. All the appliances of an up-to-date apiary, and the methods of working them, were explained, and a practical demonstration of the hnndling of bees was given. Similar addresses will be given on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, till the close of the Exhibition, but visitors can obtain information on bee-keep-ing every day. There is understood to be a probability of the French operatic soprano, Blanche Arral, being heard in the Exhibition Concert Hall at an early date.
