DROWNING FATALITIES.

At the inquest, held to-day, touching the death of the stewaid of the Hawa, named Fulda, who was drowned last nighs fcy falling off the wharf, the jury returned a verdiet that death occurred by misadventure by drowning. The jury recommended that the authorities be approached to bring under the notice of the Humane Society of Australasia the gallant and heroio aution of Rooert Hall, the third officerjof the Kittawa, in attempting to rescue the deceased, Hall wai in the water fifteen minutes, and succeeded in getting a rope rdnnd Fulda, by which he was pulled on deok. Artificial respiration for over forty minutes wasfwlthout avail. The deceased ts said to have a sister in fXunedin. N, BLENHEIM, December 6. ] A man named Walker, a steward on board the river steamer Opawa, was drowned in the Opawa River whilst bathing. It is supposed that the deoesed was seized with cramp. Walker came from London and had only been a few months in the colony. He was about 22 years of age and unmarried.
