CHARGES AGAINST A LODGE SECRETARY.

The Magisterial hearing of the charges against James Robertson of haviqg stolen from Court Sir George Grey A.0.0 P., of whioh he was secretary, the sum of £398, was concluded to-day, the defendant being committed for trial. Alban Knapp, treasurer to the Lodge, > said that daring the last twelve years there had been seventeen different auditors to the Lodge. These bad certified that the accounts were correct. He knew that Robertson had paid cash out of his own pocket on many occasions. Henry Birob, who anted as special aoditor. said that the balance sheetß were fairly accurate with one exception. The difficulty oouurred over the amount of- money on mortgage and freehold property. When he and bis colleagues finished to 1895 they found the deficiency to be £2OO. On March 30tb they invited the Trustees, Seoretary, and Treasurer to come together. The auditors on that ocHasion made statements showing a deficiency in the 1895 acounts and asked the Secretary, in the presence of the Trustees, to give an explanation if he could. He gave no explanation. At the request of the Trustees the auditors agreed to oontinue the audit and bring it up to date.
