SMALL BIRD NUISANCE.
A MASTERTON FRUITGROWERS' ASSOCIATION FORMED.
A meeting of fruitgrowers interested in the movement to devise means for the suppression of the small bird nuisance was held in the Y.M.O.A. Rooms last evening. Mr J. Oaselberg occupied the" ohair, and there were also present—Messrs W. G. Lamb, J. O. Alpass, J. Elliott, E. H. Anderson, and T. H. Rutherford. Mr Lamb explained the objeot of the meeting, and suggested that an Association should be formed to take steps to abate the nuisance. He stated that the Borough and Oounty Oounoils were empowered by Act of Parliament to vote money for the purchase of small birds' eggs. He thought, however, that an Association should be formed, and a subsidy obtained from both Couucils in order to carry out the work. It was decided that an Association, to be callea tbe "Masterton Fruitgrowers' Association," be formed, and that all those present should be a committee with power to add to their number to carry on the work of tbe Association. Mr Lamb was appointed Secretary and Treasurer pro tem. It was resolved to allow tbe Secretary 10 per cent, on all sub* soriptions collected. Tbe prioea agreed to be p£.id were threepence per dozen for eggs and nestlings and sixpence per dozen for heads of adult blackbirds, thrushes, minahe, and whiteeyes ("blight" birds). Mr Lamb reported that Mr W. H. Jaobson, headmaster of the Masterton District High school, had intimated his wlllinguesa to display a placard in tbe School giving particulars in connection with the destruction of birds.
