THE MANUFACTURE OF BRICKS.
PROPOSED ESTABLISHMENT OF A COMPANY.
At a recent meeting of the Masterton of Commerce a proposal was brought forward with regard to the establishment of a company in Masterton for the manufacture of bricks. It was stated that clay suitable for making bricks with was obtainable in tho vicinity of the town. The matter was referred to Mr J C. Ewington to obtain further information. At the meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, yesterday, Mr Ewington reported that there was good brick clay between Masterton aud Maurioeville and close to the railway line. He had had an interview with the owner of the property, who was qnite willing to allow an examination of the soil to be made. Mr Ewington thought that the Chamber should take steps at once as he bad no doubt that such a company could be established in Mastertcn. At auy rate there would be no harm in seeing the quality, quantity, and depth of the briok producing aoil. On the motion of Mr Daniell, it waß decided "that Mr Ewiugton be allowed a sum not exceeding £2 to defray expenses in obtaining information in the matter and having the soil in question examined."
