MOROCCO.
THE ALGECIRAS CONFERENCE.
FRANCE TAKING A FIRM
STAND,
Received February 2, 8.37 a.m
MADRID, February 1
The are semi official h*nts that Germany will compromise regarding the supervision of police in Morocco and the reorganisation and administration of the Sultanate. These are the principal outstanding, questions, and there are indications that a final settlement is expected thereon at Algeciras. A number of details will be left to the representatives of the Powers at Taugior. France opposes all proposals denying her general police control in Morocco.
Germany desires that all the Powers shall be placed on an equality regarding the Moroccan State Bank, but Franca contends that it would be absurd for Powers without financial interests to be placed on an equality with herself.
The Conference has adopted a scheme for regulating taxation, considerably modifying the one submitted by the Moroccan delegated.
