UPPER HUTT WOMEN'S INSTITUTE.

Mrs. McGill, vice-president, presided over the meeting of the Upper Hutt Women's Institute, which was held on July sth. Arrangements were made for the transport of those who wish to view the tableau at the Dominion Conference on July 27th, and for the collection of articles for exhibition from members. During- the afternoon Mrs. Castle demonstrated the making of sweets sprays. Members were keenly interested and Mrs. Castle was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks. The competitions for the month resulted as follows: Nut cake, Mrs. J. Hazel wood 1, Mrs. D. Ews 2; present, costing not more than one shilling: Mrs. Braid 1, Mrs. Hyslop 2; thrift article, Mrs. Braid 1, Mrs. D'Ews 2. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostesses. During the afternoon Mrs. McHugh won a competition.
