FAREWELL SOCIAL

When it became known that Mr and Mrs Hugh Craig, of Evans Flat, intended removing to Clark's Junction, the residents of Evans Flat decided to ask them to spend a social evening in the schoolroom before departing- for their new home. This hijppy gathering took place on Friday evening when a large numbar of residents assembled and spent a very enjoyable evening, dances and jovial intercourse being interspersed with songs and recitations. After refreshments, thoughtfully supplied by the ladies, had been dispensed, ■ Mr W. Leslie, on behalf of the residents, presented Mr Craig with a case of pipes and Mrs Craig with an umbrella as tokens of the esteem and respect in which they wove held in the district in which they had resided so long. Jn making the presentation Mr " J.eslie spoke in eulogistic terms of the sterling cjualities of their guests who had taken a full share in all matters affecting the welfaro of the district, and 'expressed regret at losing so kindly a couple from their midst. Messrs Felt on, M. and F. Fahey. also spoke in complimentary terms of the good qualities of Mr and Mrs Craig. Mr Craig in a fiiw well-ohosen words thanked the people of Evans Flat for their tokens of esteem giviin to Mrs Craig and himself and for the kindly expressions of goodwill with which they were accompanied. They were. also, he said, pleased to liavo been afforded so pleasing an opportunity of meeting the people and wishing them good-bye before loaving foe their new home.

During tho evening songs were contributed by Messrs E. Fahey, L'onno, Hailey, McLaughlin, and Mrs Craig, while Mr T. Hunt gave a recitation and Mr Fahey danced a hornpipe. Music for thu dance was supplied by Misses T.nslie and McLaughlin, and Messi's Fahey, Bayly and .Penrin. The hearty singing of A'uld Lang Syne brought a pleasant evening to a close.
