was brought forward by Mr King, who « pointed out the benefits to be obtained by i " Union," and in support showed \ what the trades and labor men had accom- 1 plished by combination. The farmers, he c said, must wake up to the necessity of a protecting their own interests, and the only way to accomplish this was by forming a a branch of the N.Z. Farmers' Union. 1 It was unanimously resolved to form a c branch, to be called " Greenfield," the first meetiug to be held in Mr Brockett's 1 barn on the 10th February, when an T effort would be made to obtain the c presence of Mr Pram, secretary to the > Otago Branch. i The annual subscription was fi*ed at 1 10s, and most of those present gave in j their names as members and paid their subscriptions. • c Mr James Smitn, Greenfield, was ap- '_ pointed secretary. \ t The meeting then proceeded to discuss \ various subjects affecting farming interests ■, generally, notably the erection of saleyards j in a convenient position for the district. Mr Hyslop said he considered Clyclevale the most suitable place for the erection of yards, but the majority of those present expressed themselves as more favorable to the site being fixed at Tuapeka Mouth. A vote of thanks to the chair and to Mr Moore for the use of his house for the occasion terminated the proceedings.
