Great Britain has acknowledged Habibullah as Ameer of Afghanistan. Lord Curzon transmitted King Edward's condolences at the lobs of his father, and good wiahea for the new ruler. October 16. The newspaper ' Pioneer's ' Oabul correspondent states that the Ameer, after a paralytic stroke, summoned his family and notables to his bedside on September 28. Asked to make suggestions as to hia successor, they nominated . Habiballah. The Ameer then presented him with hi 8 sword, belt, and precious stones, and a will containing instructions how to govern. He ordered his young sons to place the crown on Habibullah's head. The Ameer died on October 1. The death was not announced until the 3rd to enable Habibullah to arrange a peaceful accession. St. Petersburg, October 15. The Bußsian press declare that General Kouropatkin's visit to Central Asia is only to inspect the military posts there.
