HE WOULDN'T HALT.
A Glasgow volunteer tella how ho got a meal while his regiment was on a forced march with little or no rations. Orders were very strict against foraging, bat his empty stomach could not resist the temptation when he Baw a fat gobbler among shrubs on the roadside. He suddenly darted in pursuit of the turkey* The Major cried out, angrily : ' Halt I What do you mean ? Halt ! ' A few hurried steps and the volunteer laid the turkey low with a blow from his riflebarrel. * There, bubbly-jock ! 1 reckon you'll understand that when the major says "halt" be meant halt.' Military discipline was Bomewhat relaxed on this occasion.
