IN the Distriot. Court at New Plymouth last week Judge Kettle drew attention to the pernicious conditions under which trade is , carried on in the colony. He said that contractors without any oapital went in for contract*, and out down prices below a payable point, and, in nine cases out of ten, they found themselves in the Bankruptcy Court. In other businesses also, people without capital < too frequently entered into competition with others who had oapital to lose, the result being, in many cases, that both became bankrupt. His Honor said to enable a man to carry on business in a legitimate way — pay 203 in the £, and live honestly— he must have something to fall back on when the ordinary misfortunes of life or ■ business overtake him. His Honor considered it was the duty of the Bankruptcy Court to endeavor to put «n end to this state of things, and intimated that he intends to force his views as far as the law allowßbim, !
