WAITAHUNA FARMERS' CLUB.
A meeting of the above-named Club was held in the Good Templars' Hall, Waitahuna, on Saturday evening last. There was a fair attendance of members; Mr H. Cameron (President) in the chair. MINUTES. The minute 3of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. - CHEAP LIME. Mr Jas. Inglis, Secretary of the Tokomairiro Farmers' Club, wrote forwarding the following resolutions passed at the meeting of delegates held at Milton on 'Sth June, and requesting the club's co-operation in giving effect to same : — " (1) That petitions be sent to the different farming districts asking the Government to set up a Select Committee to enquire into the advisability of taking o.ver the lime deposits of Qtago and Southland, with a view to getting lime at a nominal cost for agricultural purposes. (2) That we respectfully request the Secretary of the Tokomairiro Farmers' Club to forward a copy of the above resolution to the various farmers' clubs and agricultural and pastoral sooieties in the different districts, asking them to take the necessary steps, if it meets with their approval, to have the petition signed and sent to the Secretary of the Tokomairiro Farmers' Club not later than 30th June. (3) That all the farmers' clubs and agricultural and pastoral societies be requested to write to the members for their districts, acquainting them with the result of the meeting and asking for their assistance." The Secretary stated that a petition had been drawn out embodying the-aboye resolutions, ancl was now in course of signature, and as soon as completed would be forwarded as requested to Mr Jas. Inglis. JUBPIT ?OISONJNGr, Mr H. Hull. Stock Inspector for the Clutha district, wrote, in reply to Club's letter, suggesting the advisability of commencing poisoning operations somewhat later in the month of June than was now notified by the authorities. Mr Hull stated be. was quite
willing to fall in with the views of the settlers in the matter ; but owing to the early frost, he was induced to commence operations earlier in the season. — Received. LEAFLETS RECEIVED. Mr Hull forwarded leaflets bearing on the nasal bot in sheep and grub in the head, explaining the mode of attack, symptoms shown, and the best method of prevention aud cure. Leaflets were also received from the Agricultural Department, Wellington, bearing upon certain diseases in potatoes and their remedy. THE LATE MEETING OF DELEGATES AT MILTON. The President, in reporting on the result of the meeting of delegates from various farmers' clubs held at Milton, to consider the best means to adopt in order to procure agricultural lime at a cheaper rate than at present, stated that the report of the proceedings published in the Milton paper was a correct report of the meeting. Although there was a difference of opinion as to the best means of obtaining the objeot they had in view, there was none as to the necessity of breaking down the present monopoly ; and it was finally decided to adopt, tha resolutions, a copy of which had been forwarded to the Club for their approval and co-operation. LOADING GUAGES. After discussion, it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Cowen, seconded by Mr R. M'Corkindale : "That the Secretary be instructed to write to the traffic manager, pointing out the loss and inconvenience the farmers of the district are subjected to from the want of guages being supplied for loading trucks with chaff at the Johnston and Manuka Creek railway stations." . THE OTAGO LAND BOARD. A conversational discussion relative to the manner in which appointments are at present made to the Otago Land Board took place, during which it was pointed out how large districts were entirely unrepresented and how the lands are dealt with in such districts by persons having no knowledge of their requirements or the extent to which such measures are likely to be beneficial or otherwise. Mr Cowen ultimately gave notice of his intention tc- move at the next meeting of the Club :—: — " That it is advisable in the interest of settlement the Tuapeka electorate should be represented on the Otago Land Board, as there is a large quantity of Crown Lands in the Tuapeka district still available for settlement." ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £1' 11s were passed for payment. This concluded the business of the evening.
