TUAPEKA BOWLING AND TENNIS CLUB.

The annual meeting of the members of the Tuapeka Bowling and Tennis Club was held in the Town Hall on Friday evening last. There was a good attendance of members; Mr J. H. Jackson (President) in the chair. The minutes of the last annual meeting were read and confirmed. ANNUAL BEPORTS. The annualreport of the Bowling Clubfor the year stated that the usual opening match of the season, President v. Vice-President, was played,resulting in a victory for the President's side. Three club matches were played during the year. For the first, two cakes were presented by Mr Macdonald. Fourteen players entered, and the winners were Messrs Johnson and Miller. The trophy for the second, a pair of silver-mounted bowls, presented by an anonymous donor, was for handicap singles. Twenty-six members (bowling and tennis) entered, Mr W. Anderson being eventually declared the winner. The third consisted of a rink match with a subscription of 2s. Twenty-eight members entered, the winners being Messrs Taylor, Hilton, and Morris. Two challenges from outside clubs were received during the year, but owing to unavoidable causes neither was contested. The match committee deserve the thanks of the club for the excellence of their arrangements for the home matches. ■ The weather seriously interfered with play during the season, the courts and rinks from Easter to closing day not being in a fit state to play on. The season was, however, a very successful one, both as regards_ the character of the play made and the number of members enrolled. The condition of both iennis courts and bowling rinks had been muoh improved during the offseason. During the season the ground was kept in fair order by the jearetaker, During the present conuniUee's term of office, the woodwork of the enclosing fence, the pavilion and seats were paiuted, which improved the general appearance of the green. The sidedoor was also moved to a more convenient place, concrete steps provided, and the bowling rinks permanently numbered. The ladies, as in previous years, kindly provided afternoon tea, for which they deserved the thanks of the members. The Tennis Committee, in their report, stated that the only matches played during the year were two with the Milton clvb — one in Lawrence and the other in Milton, both of which were won by the home players, [fhe club did not join the Association, as the committee did not see any prospect of matches being arranged for them by the Association, but they think it would be advisable to join the Association during the coming season, Two tournaments were played during the season, one for trophies subscribed for by the members, in which Miss "Jeff ery won the lady's prize and Mr Gardner the gentleman's. A trophy was also presented for racquets, by the President, the winner being Mr Dalziell. The olub was represented by Mr Dalziell in the interprovincial match Otago v. Canterbury, which was won by Otago. The committee desire to thank the President for his generous gift of two racquets to the winner of the tennis tournament and also to Mr Macdonald for two cakes presented for competition by the tennis players. The President,in moving that the report and accompanjiug balanpe-sheet he received and adopted, congratulated the cluh on the progress made during the year. They were now numerically in a very strong position, and the receipts exceeded the expenditure, There were at present 85 members on the roll, which was the largest membership the club could previously boast of. The motion was carried unanimously. ELECTION OP OFFICERS, HTC. The election of officers for the ensuing year was next proceeded with. Mr Jackson wa3 re-elected President ; Mr J. J. Woods, VicePresident ; H. D. Edwards, Secretary ; and Mr M. McLean, T^easqrer. ' " The following were 'elected as a committee of management : — Messrs Wakefield, Jeffery, J. Chalmers, A.
