STATE OF THE ROAD AT MILLERS FLAT. (TO THE Editor.)

Sir, — A few months ago there were about seventy children going to the Millers Flat school, and now there is not one-third of that number in attendance. And it is laughable to see their mother's carrying those who do go half-way to school on their backs. But the mothers and children occasionally fall down in the mud and water, and then you should hear them crying out about the County members and saying a loud prayer for them. I certainly would not like to be the member for Teviot riding. A part of this road was formed a few years ago, and there is gravel a few chains from it which the Council would not put on the road. The consequence is the road is unfit for man or beast to travel on. If there is an inspector I hope he will come and look at this road, as there are ruts large enough to bury a horse, and there are pools of water every two or three yards you go. It is the worst piece of road that I have seen in New Zealand, and I hope I will see the day when the County Councils are abolished. — I am, etc., Ratepayer. Millers Flat, 27th June.
