THE COACH ACCIDENT.
We are glad to learn that the victims of I the recent coach accident are progressing as favourably as can be expected under the. circumstances. Mrs Peters, whose condition after the accident was sufficiently serious to cause the gravest misgivings, has since rallied wonderfully, and shows the most reassuring signs of improvement. She has completely recovered consciousness; and though it may be advisable to allow her to remain where she is for some little time, still all danger is past, and there is no further cause for solicitude or anxiety in her case. With Mr M'lntosh it is somewhat different. He was the greatest sufferer by the accident, the bruises all over his body and the condition of his face and head affording painful demonstration of the desperate nature of the accident, the terrible shock he must have sustained, and of the providential escape he had of his life. He has since being picked up on the road remained the greater part of . the time in a state of coma, though during the last twenty-four hours he has experienced spasmodic returns of consciousness, relapsing again into his previous state of semiinsensibility. It is, however, gratifying to know that he is not suffering pain, and that his breathing comes easily and apparently, without painful effort on his part. Dr. Withers visited Mr M'lntosh yesterday, and speaks very hopefully of his condition. ' The Doctor is of opinion that he will pull through alright, his recovery being entirely a matter of time and care. He has not yet quite recovered consciousness, only for very brief intervals, as already stated. The only danger to be apprehended is that inflammation of the Drain may supervene; otherwise, there is at present nothing to fear. Everything that medical skill and the most careful nursing can do is being done for the unfortunate sufferer ; and with his natur« ally robust constitution we have no doubt the next few days will reveal a marked improvement in Mr M'lntosh's condition.
