COMPANIES.

The object of this measure is to give further powers to companies with respect to certain instruments under which they may be constituted or regulated. Subject to the provisions of this Acb, a company may, by special resolution, alter the provisions j of its memorandum of association or deed of settlement with respect to the objects of the company, or alter the form of its constitution by substituting a memorandum and articles of association for a deed of settlement ; but the alterations cannot take effect until confirmed on petition by the court. SHOP HOURS BILL makes it compulsory upon all shops carrying on business in a city or borough to close on four days of the week at six o'clock, one day at nine o'clock, and one day at two o'clock,except chemists' shops, coffee houses, restaurants, eating houses, confectioners', fish, and oyster shops, fruit and vegetable shops, and tobacconists' shops. A woman or person under 18 years of age cannot be employed in or about a shop for a longer period than 58 hours, including meal times, in any one week. Thei'e are a number of minor regulations in the Act, and substantial penalties may be imposed upon persons infringing any of its provisions.
