Store Cattle. — The market for these continues quiet, no transactions of any consequence t aking place. Store Sheep. — The business done is only to a very moderate extent. A fair demand still exists, but there are very few offering. Wool. — In the local market a very good demand exists for the small lots offered from time to time. Pelt mongers' clipped, fine crosabreds, and fine combing merino wools have good attention. Sheepskins. — These have a steady demand, and meet with good competition at the hands of the trade. / Babbitskins. — The demand for these is unlimited ; in consequence a very keen and healthy competition continues to be experienced for all sorts submitted to public auction. On Monday the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co, offered a good catalogue to a full attendance of the trade, when bidding as usual, wan very brisk indeed, resulting in prices bttiug realised which must be satisfactory

to vendors. All classes were in demand ; but nicely got-up winter greys, more especially thin peltel doe skins, are in most favour. We quote b 'at winter greys. J6d to 17|'1 ; medium to «j>od, 13d to 15|(i ; autumn aktis, 9d <o 12.1 ; summer do, 5J to 8d ; auckera and ha f -grown, 3d to. 4 1 ; black and fawn — best, lOi to 11^ d ; inferior to medium, 6i to 9i per ib. Hides. — The market remains unchanged and all consignments coming to hand are freely taken up ; but, in the continued absence of any demand for expoifc, prices a''ow no improvement. Tallow. — A moderate demand exiss for well rendered parcels ; in fact, all arrivals are being readily placed at equal to late ratfs. Wheat.— At present them is little or no business being done in this cereal. There is no demand for either export or local consumption ; indeed, there is very little in the market fit for shipment, by far the larger portion being only second class, with a ao<>d deal merely fit for feed purposes. The latter class ia in good request, but buyers decline to give over certain defined prices. Holders atill adhere to late quotations— viz., for best milling velvet aud Tuscan, 43 fd to 4s 9d ; medium to «.>od, 4s 3d to 4s 6d ; good whole fowl's wheat, 3s 6d to 3s 9d ; broken, 23 9J to 33 5d (ex store, sacks weighed in, terms). Oats. — Although the business done in thsse does not assume any very great dimensions, a quiet trade is passing both for local requirements and export, • more especially in stout bright milling lines. We quote best bright milling, Is 6d to Is 6Jd ; extra prime. Is Td ; best blight feed, Is s|d to Is 6d ; medium to good, Is4d to Is sil ; inferior, smutty, and dump, Is to Is 3|d (ex store, sacks extra, net cash}. Barley. — A few small parcels are being placed at prices about equal to those ruling lately, which we quote as follows — viz., for prime bright malting, 2s 9d to 3a ; medium, 2a 3d to 2s 6d ; feed and milling, Is 8d to 2a 2d (ex store, sacks extra, terms). Grass Seed. —This market still continues quiet. Potatoes — There is no improvement in the position of the market. Quotations for best Derwents, 40a to 455; medium, 30s to 37s 6d per ton (sacks weighed in). Chaff. — The supply during the week has been fully up to requirements. Prices in consequence show no improvement. Quotations : For best, 42s 6d to 45s ; medium, 37s 6d to 40s ; inferior, 30s ts 35s per ton. Dairy Produce. — The supply ia fully equal to the demand, and no alteration in quotations. Flax. — It i 3 satisfactory to note that prices at Home are improving, which no doubt in time will influence the local market. At the moment, however, owing to the season of the year, the business done in the local market is liarited, but prices continue firm.
