SCIENTIFIC ADVERTISING.
Many are the theories entertained by unsophisticated minds upon this subject, the greater part of them homer wide of tho in irk as to its policy, i.fluenc?, iind i\d vantages. Modern advertising his becomo so much a soient»6c pursuit that tho old conditions are altogether changed, not, merely elaborated and systemnised, but laid down on a newly devised !>a<is, up'in which is raised a superstructure at once elegant and impressive* A simple announcement in as few worth as possible (to save expense) regarding BOine article of ordinary economical value and domestic use, is now scarcely regarded by tbe purchaain« public. To b» effective and arrest attention nowadays, the article must possess some advantages hitherto not specifically attributed to it, which may refer either to quality or quantity ; audthe display of these new principles in conspicuous and attractive characters of th.9 printers' or lithographers' arts, constitute one very marked alteration in modern advertising. This leads to the point regarding peculiarities in the styles practised by different houses ; while some are altogether for pictorial illustrations, others follow by a happy medium between the lithographic and plain typographical arts. One celebrated patent medicine company have long adopted tho paragraph style of uewspaper advertising, whereby the article under consideration is covertly and adroitly introduced by a happy allusion to some topic of the day or hour, finally securing the design intended by the writer in the climax. Thia system possesses only one drawback in the case of a reader who is antagonistic to the views put forth, which may produce an auathema upen the author of the dissimulation. But the great secret in extensive and successful advertising lies in the fact that the article set forth for the admiration of the people miist be a really good thing in itself, not a one bottle remedy for every remedy ; and if it lias already withstood the teat of time and obtained the confidence of a large proportion of the community, so much the better its chance of successfully attracting the notice of general readers. Upon these premises we venture to name as the objects worthy of wide-world advertising Warner's Safe Care for liver and urinary diseases. Warner's Safe Diabetes Cure, Warner's Safe Rheumatic Cu:e, Warner's Safe Pill's, the only known specifics for the several complaints for which they are indicated. The following is the latest certificate received from a patient cured of diabetes : —"Camden, N.S.W., 19th May, 1891 — lt gives me great pleasure in testifying to '.he great benefit I derived from (he use of your saf a Diabetes Cure. I suffered for years with sugar diabetes, and was brought very low in coosequence. Having lost several pounds in flesh I had not sufficient strength to walk acroaa the yard. My excessive thirst was almost unbearable, great weakness and pains down my legs, and my urine contained a very large amount of sugar, I was told I could not possibly recover. T would not have cared to live but for my wife and family. I tried many remedies and consulted several doctors to no benefit. I was persuaded against my will to try Warner's " Safe" Diabetes Cure. I procured a case, and commenced its use, and continued to get better to the surprise \.t myself and friends. I am now able to go about my business as usual. (Signed) .las.
