MISS FREEMAN' S CANDIDATURE.

It is gratifying to notice that Miss Freeman's merits as a candidate for a seat on the Education Board are being widely recognised, and that there is a chance of her being elected & member of that body in the ensuing elections. We heartily recommend her candidature to the committees on the general ground that she is one of the most fit and proper persons upon whom the honour of a seat can be conferred. She is herself a first-class teacher, of large experience in the practical work of schools ; and would bring a lot of useful knowledge to bear on the deliberations of the Board. In the Old Country, women take an active part in the work of public education, holding seats on school boards ; and their vote and influence are invariably exercised on the right side. Leaving aside the individual qualifications of Miss Freeman for the position she seeks to occupy, we think it is only right and proper that the sex should be represented on the Board. There is a majority of female scholars in our public schools ; there is, we believe, a majority of female teachers ; and to think, therefore, that these should not be represented on the ruling body by | one of their own aex is positively j monstrous. When some people taA^ of women usurping the duties of mety they seem to be oblivious of the fact that the reverse is more often the cape ; and that in certain walks of life jn which women should be supreme, they have to put up with keen competition

at the hands of the sterner sex. We trust that in the coming election the committees will display their good sense and judgment by voting for Miss Freeman.
