THE ELECTR IC LIGHT.

At its meeting on Monday evening, the Lawrence Borough Council took into consideration Mr Walter Prince's liberal proposal for lighting the town with electricity. The general tone of the^ remarks was in favour of electricity if it could be introduced |without pledging the town to any serious expenditure. Mr J. C. Brown, with his Home experiences full upon him, was strongly in favour of entertaining Mr Prince's offer, or, at least, giving that gentleman every encouragement. He spoke of the great advantages of the electric light, of which he had had an opportunity of judging ; and thought that Lawrence, with the grand water power at hand, offered special facilities for an undertaking of this kind. We think the Mayor took a very sensible view of the matter; and Mr Chalmers was not far wide of the remark when he expressed the opinion that if the electric light were placed within the reach of the householders, not one half of them would avail themselves of it. Mr Prince is to be invited to visit Lawrence; but we think he will see and learn sufficient when he cornea here to convince him that the introduction of the electric light is somewhat premature.
