■ AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT.
(To flit, Editor.) Sib, — In the cause' of suffering humanity I bes your insertion of the following facts :— About four months ago while at work stooking grain at a farmers narced Joseph Guard, Maerewhenua, I got a wheat straw in m yeye. I worked two weeks after thnt, until I found my eyesight nearly gone. Not being able to bear the nain any longer, I went to the Timaru Hospital. I told the doctor there that I had a straw iii my eye, but* he persuaded me
out of it, and said it was no such thing. I was in that institution six or eight weeks. Not feeling satisfied with the treatment I received, I left there for Christchurch to get advicn. I consulted two doctors, neither of whom could see the straw. I left there and came on to Dunedin. Not finding a doctor I could place my dependence on, and accidentally hearing from sereral parties there of the skill of Dr Stirling, and happening to piok up jour paper notifying his appointment to the Tuapeka Hospital, I at once started for here. On arrival at the Hospital, I had not been under his examination a few seconds before he discovered the straw and extracted it. My eye is progressing well, and I have no pain in it. Feeling it my duly to man, and in gratitude to your newly-appointed surgeon, -Dr Stirling, I hare written this. — I am, &c, Gbob&b Hill WjiaoN. Lawrence, July 17th, 1878.
