LAWRENCE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the above body, which was adjourned on Monday evening, was held on Wednesday. There were in attendance : His Worship the Mayor, and Councillors Tolcher, Miller, and Hayes. MINUTES. The minutes of the preceding ordinary meeting were read and 'confirmed. COEEESPONDENCE. The outward correspondence was read and approved. The inward was not of a very important character. EXTENSION OF TIME. Mr A. Louden made application for an extension of time for carrying out his.contract for gravelling Lancaster-street. — The Council resolved to accede to Mr Loudens request. STATE OP IONA-STEEET; Mr A. Humphrey drew the attention of the Council to the impassable state of lona-street. He respectfully suggested that the formation of a footpath in that locality be immediately undertaken. — It was decided to refer Mr Humphrey's letter to the Public Works Committee. A DESIEAB-E CONCESSION. The following letter was received from the Secretary of the Tuapeka Jockey Club : — "Gentlemen, — I am directed by the Committee of the Tuapeka Jockey Club to ask you to solicit from the manager of the Otago railways a similar concession for their race meeting to that granted to tha Dunedin Race Committee — viz., return tickets to Lawrence at single rates, available from Saturday and Monday, 16th and 18th March, till Wednesday, 20th March. The Committee think that the application coming from the Council would perhaps have more weight, and, by being favorably entertained by Mr Grant, secure a much larger attendance at the meeting." — After discussion, it was agreed "That the request of the Tuapeka Jockey Club be complied with." ACCOUNTS. The following accounts were referred to the Public Works Committee for investigation :—: — A. Humphrey, £12 10s ; J. E. Bromley, £8 15s ; Anderson and Brunton, £4 4s ; D. Cochrane, £10 16s ; Jas. White, £2 17s 6d ; W. Tolcher, 7s 6d. FINANCE EEPOET. A report submitted by the Finance Committee showed that tbe balance due at the bank up to date amounted to £492 9s 2d. PETITION. A petition was presented by Or. Walker from " Corporation tenants, and occupiers of Corporation leasehold sections, situate in blocks XLI. and LVTL, town of Lawrence, on the Beaumont road," setting forth that a portion of the road between thpir property and the present road had not been filled in, and, as a " consequence a large quantity of stagnant water accumulated, causing most objectionable and unhealthy stenches to arise, and a considerable quantity of rank vegetation to grow, to the great detriment of their health." — The petition was referred to the Public Works Committee. After the rough minutes had been read, the meeting closed.
