WASTE LANDS BOARD.
(From tJie "Daily Times.") The usual weekly meeting of the Waste Lands Board was held on Wednesday. There were present : Mr J. P. Maitland, Chief Commissioner, and Commissioners Bastings, Clark, Green, and Thomson. MINUTES. The minutes were read and confirmed. OPHIB. Mr- G. Pache, on behalf of Mr John Pitches, lodged an application to purchase section 1, block 1, Ophir township, having oocupied the section previous to the townBhip being surveyed. . The land having been granted to the Athenaum the Board could not grant the application. HUNDBED REGULATIONS. Mr H. Carswell, Warden of the Toi Tois Hundred, forwarded regulations for the Hundred for 1878, for approval.—Approved. PEE FOR DEFERRED-PAYMENT LICENSES. The Chief Commissioner brought under the notice of the Board the necessity for charging a fee for deferred-payment and exchange licenses under the Land Apt of 1877, section 25, sub-section 14. The Board fixed the fee to be charged qn issue of license at £%, and on transfer of lipense, £1 ; approval of Government to be obtained. CROOKSTON AND HIGHLAY, Plans of 16 and 17, Crookston district, were laid on the table, with a m,emo t from,
the Chief Surveyor thereon, as to valuation payable for improvements ; also plan of 3, Highlay ; 7 and 8, Waihem > district, for approval, with list of valuations by the Chief Sarveyor for fencing on 7, Waiherao, and 3, Highlay ; and a memo, as to the question of upset price to be fixed for lands in 3, Highlay ; and 8, Waihemo. Consideration adjourned for a fortnight. — Plans approved. POMAHAKA. The Board considered the report by the District Land Officer, Lawrence, on the application by Messrs Connell and Moodie on behalf of the N.Z. and A.L. Co., for a license of reserved sections 1 and 2, block I, Pomahaka district, under the 149 th section of the Land Act, 1877, for ferry purposes. — Bequest declined. RURAL LANDS. The following applications to purchase rural land were received : — Ephraim Varcoe, section 64, block XIX, Tuapeka East; S. 0. Lain, section 20, block XX, Tuapeka East. The Board decided that the land applied for should be sold by auction as land of special value at 40s, with valuation attached. TUAPEKA WEST. The District Land Officer, Lawrence, forwarded a report on Mr J. M'Lean's request to have sections 1 and 7, block 1, Tuapeka West, and section 17, block 11, same district, submitted to auction. Declined. Section 7 to be offered for sale at £2 per acre as of special value. TEVIOT. Mr W. Crossan applied for a lease of sections 23, 25, 26, and 28, block 111, Teviot district, under section 54, Otago Waste Lands Act, 1872. The District Land Officer's report thereon was considered. — Approved. WAIKAIA Messrs Reid and Duncans applied, oj£ behalf of Mr James Gall, to purchase 10jp acres on Run No. 327, Waikaia district, — Request refused APPLICATION TO PURCHASE. The Board considered the recommendation of the District Land Officer at Clyde on Mr David Parker's application to purchase his residence area in section 1, block X, Teviot district. It was decided that the land should be sold as of special value at the upset price of £2 per acre. ALTERATION OF BOUNDARIES. The Chief Commissioner drew the attention of the Board to the question of the alteration of the boundaries of land district at Waikaia. It was resolved that any alteration in the boundaries wonld be unwise at present. WAIKAIA, TEVIOT, AND MILLER'S SLAT. Mr Horace Bastings moved — " That the Chief Commissioner forward at once to the Hon. the Minister of Lands the report of Messrs, Clark, and Green, upon the land selected by them in the Waikaia, Teviot, and Miller's Flat districts, and that he be requested to give immediate effect to the same by having it surveyed in blocks not exceeding 320 acres." — Carried. The Board then adjourned.
